Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University junior forward Shante Evans was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.
Evans earns the award after leading the women's basketball team to a pair of wins at the Cancun Challenge over Kansas State and Drake.
The two victories improved the Pride's record to 4-1 this season as they have now won four straight games. In addition, all four of the wins have been by double digits, including back-to-back wins over schools from BCS conferences (St. John's and Kansas State).
Evans averaged 17 points and 8.5 rebounds in Hofstra's two games. She scored 19 points in the win over Kansas State and added seven rebounds. Against Drake on day two of the tournament Evans had her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Evans leads Hofstra in scoring and rebounding this season with averages of 17 points and 8.6 rebounds.
