Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University senior guard Candice Bellocchio was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced today.
Bellocchio garnered the award after a nearly flawless performance in Hofstra's 93-82 victory over St. John's on Friday.
The fifth-year senior guard out of Staten Island, New York had her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 assists in 38 minutes. She was 3-5 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe and added three defensive rebounds in the contest.
It marked Bellocchio's seventh career game with at least 10 assists and fourth career double-double. The win was Hofstra's first over St. John's since November 2001.
Hofstra returns to action on Thursday when it takes on Kansas State in its first game at the Cancun Challenge at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Game time is 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EST).
