KILBURN-STEVESKEY RECEIVES CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH 2013-14

4/3/2009 1:15:00 AM

Hempstead, NY -- Hofstra University Head Women's Basketball Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey has agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Jack Hayes.

Kilburn-Steveskey just completed her third season at the helm of the Pride Women's Basketball program, where she has accumulated a career record of 47-47.

The inaugural recipient of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Maggie Dixon Award in 2007, Kilburn-Steveskey is coming off a 16-14 campaign, which ranked as one of the top turnarounds in women's college basketball this season.  Hofstra's 11-game improvement from the 2007-08 season ranks as the fourth-best in the nation.

After leading her first team to a 26-8 record and a spot in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) Quarterfinals, including wins over teams from the Big Ten (Michigan State), Big East (Seton Hall) and Southeastern (South Carolina) conferences, Kilburn-Steveskey has made her mark in the recruiting area.

In her three seasons in Hempstead, Kilburn-Steveskey has had three players earn Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie Team honors, including a pair (Nicole Capurso and Joelle Connelly) this past season.  Connelly took it one step further as she garnered CAA Rookie of the Year accolades, while junior college transfer Jess Fuller was named to the All-CAA second team in her first full season in a Pride uniform.  Capurso and Connelly combined to win CAA Rookie of the Week accolades six times, while Fuller added a CAA Player of the Week honor to the count as well.

Kilburn-Steveskey's influence on the program can be felt in other areas as well.  This past season Hofstra had three CAA All-Academic honorees, which marked the second straight season that the Pride led the conference in CAA All-Academic Team members.

Kilburn-Steveskey 2009-10 incoming class includes a trio of players and next season will also be the first in a Hofstra uniform for West Virginia transfer Marie Malone.  Joining her as newcomers next season will be Candace Bond, Shante Evans and Lindsey Watson.  Evans entered her senior season ranked No. 54 in the ESPN HoopGurlz 100, a national ranking for prep players.
