12/30/2008 11:00:00 AM

Jersey City, NJ -- Junior center Jess Fuller had her fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore guard Aamira Terry added 16 points and eight rebounds as the Hofstra Women's Basketball team outlasted Saint Peter's, 64-57, in overtime in the final game of the Saint Peter's College Holiday Classic in Jersey City, New Jersey on Tuesday evening.

The win was the seventh straight for Hofstra, which improves to 8-3 this season.  Saint Peter's falls to 2-8 with its sixth straight defeat.

A low scoring first half saw Saint Peter's recover from an early six-point deficit to earn a 23-17 halftime advantage.  Hofstra got eight points and six rebounds from Fuller in the opening twenty minutes, but the Pride managed to shoot just 6-22 (27.3%) from the field and committed 15 first half turnovers.  A layup from Fuller gave Hofstra a 14-8 lead at the 10:25 mark, but the Peahens held the Pride without a point until 4:02 was left in the half while going on a 10-0 scoring run to take the lead.

Saint Peter's would up its advantage up to as many as 14 points as they opened the second half on a 12-4 run to lead 35-21 with 16:51 remaining in regulation.  Hofstra would gradually chip away at the deficit and finally regained the lead at 51-50 courtesy of a three-pointer from freshman guard Nicole Capurso with 50 seconds remaining in the second stanza.  It would be the Pride's first lead since holding a 14-13 advantage at the 7:27 mark of the opening half.  The final minute of regulation would be frantic, with Cassandra Bryant sending the game to overtime with a layup with 4.6 seconds left.

The extra session would be all Hofstra, as the Pride scored the first five points of the overtime and held Saint Peter's without a field goal (0-8) in overtime to eventually earn the 64-57 victory.  It was Hofstra's second win in overtime this season (Buffalo), and Fuller put the Pride up for good with a free throw with 3:35 left.

Capurso finished with 12 points for Hofstra, marking her fourth game in a row with double figures.  The Staten Island native, along with Fuller earned all-tournament honors.  Fuller has scored in double figures in six straight games and her four double-doubles leads the team.

Tania Kennedy paced Saint Peter's with a game-high 22 points.

Hofstra will begin Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play this weekend when they host Northeastern on Sunday at 2 p.m.
