With the win, Hofstra improves to 20-27-1 overall and 9-16 in the CAA, while Northeastern drops to 21-18 and 14-8 in the conference.
In this pitcher's duel, Northeastern struck first in the bottom half of the fourth inning as Dan Milano ripped a double down the right field line that plated Matt Morizio, who led off the inning with a base hit.
Down 1-0 heading into the top half of the sixth, the Pride answered back behind their senior class. Senior third baseman Ricky Caputo (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and then stole third base. Senior first baseman Mike Walsh (Norfolk, MA/King Philip Regional) hit a one-out single up the middle that scored Caputo. Next, senior shortstop Josh Stern (Millwood, NY/Horace Greeley) lined a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Senior catcher Steve Oliveri (Huntington Station, NY/St. Anthony's) followed with a two-RBI single up the middle that plated Walsh and Stern, and put the Pride up 3-1.
Northeastern added a run in the ninth, but Hofstra escaped a jam as the game ended with runners on second and third.
Junior Jeff Denlea (Oyster Bay, NY/St. Dominic's) picked up his fifth save of the year. David Huth (Akron, OH/Western Reserve Academy) was stellar out of the pen, throwing two key shutout innings. Adam Ottavino (3-3) was tagged with the loss for the Huskies.
