Hofstra University Head Women's Basketball Coach Felisha Legette-Jack(pictured) today announced the appointment of Cherie Hogg to the position of Assistant Coach. Hogg replaces Jose Mori, who resigned to accept a coaching position at the University of Florida.
?œCherie brings a wealth of experience to our Basketball program. As a player she was a Junior College Player of the Year, made two postseason appearances at UNLV and has several years of professional experience. She also coached at UNLV for two years as an assistant to Regina Miller, whom I think is a fabulous coach and teacher,?ť commented Legette-Jack. ?œWe are fortunate to have someone with Cherie's abilities join our Pride family and she adds to the positive direction of which we are taking our Women's Basketball program. Our future is even brighter with Cherie on our team.?ť
Hogg joins the Pride coaching staff after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. AT UNLV Hogg was involved in all aspects of the Lady Rebel program including game and practice coaching, development of guards and forwards, recruiting, scouting, academics and NCAA compliance. Hogg was also involved in running the UNLV Summer Basketball Camp. She also spent one year (1994-95) as an assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
A professional basketball player overseas, Hogg has played in her native Australia, Holland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain. In 2001-2002 she played for Puig Den Valls in Ibiza, Spain, and helped lead her team to a 30-2 record and a Premier Division championship. In 2000-2001 she played for the Rhondda Rebels in Wales, United Kingdom, and was part of a team that went 37-1 and were National League champions, National Cup champions and National Playoff champions.
While playing for the Rhondda Rebels, Hogg served as a coach in the Rebels' Youth Basketball Program. She also has coached in youth basketball programs affiliated with her professional teams in Australia (Adelaide Lightening and Canberra) and Holland (Groningen).
During her two-year career (1992-94) at UNLV that included a trip to the 1993 Women's National Invitation Tournament and 1994 NCAA Tournament, Hogg became only the fourth Lady rebel in school history to tally 100 assists and 100 steals in a single season. She holds school records for steals in a season (129), three-point percentage in a season (.456) and steals in a game (11), and ranks ninth all-time in assists (319).
As a senior she earned All-Big West Conference first team accolades and was an honorable mention selection as a junior.
A 1994 graduate of UNLV with a degree in athletic training, Hogg also earned an associate's degree in math and science from Lassen Community College in Susanville, California, in 1992. As a player at Lassen, she was named the 1992 California Junior College Player of the Year.
