Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University senior pitcher Carlos Martinez was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft. He was the 118th pick overall and became the 16th Hofstra baseball student-athlete to be selected in the draft. His selection follows Dylan Palmer, who was picked by Pittsburgh in the 2025 MLB Draft.

"We are thrilled for Carlos and his family," said Hofstra Head Baseball Coach Frank Catalanotto. "Carlos put himself in this position through hard work and determination, and we are so excited that he will get the opportunity to pitch at the next level in the Giants organization."

A two-time First Team All-CAA selection, Martinez appeared in 36 games with 28 starts during his three playing seasons. He owns a 13-8 record with a 4.39 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 168 innings of work. He will leave Hofstra ranked third in career strikeouts and tied for seventh in wins.

This past season, Martinez posted a 6-3 record, a 3.30 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 76 ⅓ innings of work. He limited opponents to a career-best .228 batting average. The 3.30 ERA and 96 strikeouts were also personal-bests, while the six wins matched his total from 2024. The 96 strikeouts also tied for the second-most in a season in program history. In addition to his All-CAA First Team selection, Martinez was also named to the All-CAA Championship Team.

A College Point, New York, native, Martinez was a All-PSAL selection at Flushing High School.
