Hofstra To Take On Charleston In CAA Championship Opener

| By:
Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University baseball team begins its quest for a CAA title Wednesday when the fifth-seeded Pride takes on fourth-seeded College of Charleston at 12 p.m. from Brooks Field on the campus of UNCW. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege with live statistics also available.

Hofstra (20-27) earned one of two wildcard entries to the CAA Championship based on its RPI of 150. Charleston (28-26) earned its spot by finishing second in the CAA South Division.

The Pride are making their sixth CAA Championship appearance and first since 2024. Hofstra is 6-8 all-time in CAA Championship play and won the 2022 title, the first in program history.

Charleston is making its 12th consecutive CAA Championship appearance, qualifying every year since joining the league in 2014. The Cougars are seeking their second CAA title after winning in 2014.

Hofstra is 13-24 all-time against Charleston, including 0-2 in CAA Championship play. The Cougars won two of three games earlier this season at home.

Carlos Martinez (5-2, 3.48 ERA) will get the start for the Pride against the Cougars. Martinez missed the regular season series due to injury. The reigning CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week, Martinez has won his last three starts and has tallied 24 strikeouts in 23 ⅔ innings over that span.

The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to face either top-seeded Campbell or second-seeded Northeastern Thursday. The loser will take on the loser of the No. 3 Monmouth-No. 6 UNCW game in an elimination game Thursday at 11 a.m.
