No. 23 Hofstra Hosts St. John's Sunday Night

| By:
Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's soccer team returns to action Sunday night, August 24, when it hosts the Red Storm of St. John's University. Kick-off from Captains Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege with live statistics also available.

Hofstra, ranked No. 23 by the United Soccer Coaches, is coming off a season-opening 2-1 loss to Bucknell Thursday night. The Pride scored first on a Daniel Burko goal but conceded two unanswered goals to the Bison, including the game-winner with just under 15 minutes to play in the second half. The Pride held advantages in shots and corner kicks in suffering the rare home loss. Hofstra is 20-2-2 in its last 24 home games.

St. John's opened its 2025 season with a 1-0 win at Temple as freshman Xavi Abiejon scored the game's lone goal with just over five minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Alec McLaughlin made one save to record his 15th career shutout.

The Red Storm lead the all-time series with Hofstra, 10-3-2. The teams have played sporadically over the years with just four meetings since 1994. The last matchup came on September 6, 2017 in Queens and ended in a 0-0 draw. The last game in Hempstead came in 1994, a 2-0 St. John's victory.

Following Sunday's game, Hofstra will have a week off before returning to action at Binghamton on August 31 at 3 p.m.
