Great Start! Hofstra Rolls Past Northeastern In CAA Opener

Brookline, MA - Laurie Goddard, the Preseason CAA Player of the Year, showed why he was selected as he scored two goals and Daniel Burko added a goal of his own as Hofstra rolled past Northeastern, 3-1, in the Pride's CAA opener at Parsons Field. Hofstra evened its record at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the CAA with the win. Northeastern slipped to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the CAA with the loss.

Hofstra was aggressive from the get-go and drew a penalty kick just 3:02 into the contest as Pablo Hempelmann-Perez was taken down in the box. Goddard converted the penalty kick with a blast right down the middle. The Pride kept the pressure up and appeared to score again several minutes later but the goal was waived off due to an offsides call. Goddard would get the brace at 30:25 following some precision passing from Stefano Campisi and David Adegborioye

Campisi would notch another assist on Burko's goal at the 70:55 mark with Hempelmann-Perez also receiving credit for a helper. The Huskies would end the shutout bid five minutes later as Ethan Kang sent in a free kick over the head of Hofstra keeper Gino Cervoni

That was the lone blemish on Cervoni's day as the senior made his first career start and recorded three saves to earn his first career victory.

Hofstra will be back in action Wednesday night at Princeton with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
