Nine Earn EIWA Academic Achievement Awards

Hempstead, NY - Nine members of the Hofstra wrestling team - Dylan Acevedo, Chase Liardi, Justin Hoyle, Noah Tapia, Kyle Mosher, Matthew Waddell, Ross McFarland, Nikolas Miller, and Danny Church- were named recipients of Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Academic Achievement Awards for the 2024-25 season. A total of 58 wrestlers from the league were recognized and Hofstra's nine selections were a conference best. 

The EIWA Academic Achievement Awards are presented to conference wrestlers who have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 and competed in the EIWA Championships, or achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and represented the EIWA and their institution at the NCAA Championships. All nine Hofstra honorees achieved cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher and competed at the EIWA Championships, with Mosher and McFarland representing the program at the NCAA Championships following their EIWA individual titles.

Acevedo, a red-shirt senior, owns a 3.31 grade point average as a finance major. Competing at 125 pounds, Acevedo compiled seven wins this past season. This is Acevedo's second EIWA Academic Achievement Award in as many years.

Liardi, a red-shirt junior, earned his second EIWA Academic Achievement Award with a 3.42 GPA as a finance major. Liardi posted 12 wins on the season at 133 pounds. 

Hoyle, a graduate student at 141 pounds, owns a 3.36 grade point average and is pursuing an advanced certificate in business. He recorded 14 wins during the 2024-25 season and placed sixth at the conference tournament. This is Hoyle's fifth EIWA Academic Achievement Award.

Tapia, a 149 pound sophomore, has a 3.75 grade point average as a history major and was selected to the NWCA Scholar All-America Team for the second consecutive season. He recorded 18 wins for the Pride and placed fourth at the EIWA Championships.

Mosher, a graduate student at 165 pounds, has a 3.35 grade point average in sustainability. The EIWA Champion this past season, Mosher posted a team-high 19 wins and was also named an NWCA Scholar All-American. This is Mosher's first EIWA Academic Achievement Award. 
 
Waddell, a red-shirt freshman majoring in finance, picks up his first EIWA Academic Achievement Award with a 3.57 GPA. He was also an NWCA Scholar All-America selection. 

McFarland, a graduate student majoring in physical education and health, owns a 3.95 grade point average. The EIWA champion at 184 pounds, he posted 16 victories this past season. An NWCA Scholar All-American, McFarland is now a four-time recipient of the EIWA Academic Achievement Award. 

Miller, a red-shirt junior 197-pounder, owns a 3.38 grade point average as a finance major. A first-time EIWA Academic Achievement Award recipient, Miller won 16 matches and placed seventh at the conference tournament. 

Church, a red-shirt freshman, is also a first-time EIWA Academic Achievement Award recipient. The 285-pounder has a 3.38 grade point average as an electrical engineering major.
