Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Wrestling Coach Jamie Franco announced the hiring of Josh Mason, a four-time Mid-American Conference place winner and a two-time NCAA qualifier, as an assistant coach for the Pride. Mason comes to Hofstra after spending seven months as the wrestling video coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania.

"We are very happy to have Josh join our staff," said Franco. "An accomplished student-athlete, he has a great mind for the sport as an up-and-coming coach. We feel that our student-athletes will benefit from Josh's tutelage and that he makes our program better."

 A 2023 magna cum laude graduate of Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, Mason was the conference runner-up at 141 pounds in 2022 and 2023 and was an NCAA Championships qualifier both seasons. He also placed sixth in the MAC in 2020 and seventh in 2021. Mason posted a 69-41 record during his collegiate career with the Huskies after starting at Nebraska in 2018 and not competing. During the 2021-22 season, he collected 15 wins by fall to rank second in the nation.  

Mason also excelled academically, earning dean's list accolades each semester at Bloomsburg and both semesters at Nebraska. He was also a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American, a three-time MAC All-Academic Team selection, and a 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District pick. 

In addition to his experience at Penn, Mason has served as an assistant wrestling coach with PRTC Wrestling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since July 2025. He has also worked in real estate as an investor with Ultra LLC in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania.

Mason, a New Ringgold, Pennsylvania native, holds a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Bloomsburg.
