Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University baseball team will have a busy week, traveling to South Orange, New Jersey, for a midweek matchup with the Seton Hall Pirates Wednesday before returning home for a weekend Coastal Athletic Association series against Elon. The Pride (14-30, 4-14 CAA) is coming off a 2-1 series loss to Delaware. In the second game of the series, a Hofstra win, Jackson Bauer struck out eight and allowed just two runs on four hits over 6 ⅓ innings before yielding to Christian Rasmussen, who tossed 1 ⅔ innings and allowed one hit.
Tanner Sanderoff came on in the ninth with a runner on first and struck out the side to seal the victory.
Sean Lane provided the go-ahead and eventual game-winning home run in the 3rd inning. Lane hit two home runs in the series.
On the season, Dylan Palmer leads the Pride with a .379 average, 67 hits, 21 stolen bases, and single-season school record six triples.
Luke Masiuk has been the Pride's top power threat with 12 doubles, nine home runs, and 40 RBIs. Lane has eight home runs and 17 RBIs.
Seton Hall (18-26, 5-7 Big East) is coming off a series victory against Butler this past weekend. The Pirates are led by Aidan Robbins, who has recorded 26 extra-base hits and leads the BIg East with a .419 average, which also ranks 11th nationally.
Hofstra and Seton Hall have met 29 times. The Pirates hold a 19-10 series lead. The teams faced off earlier this season, with Hofstra winning 13-12 after a bases loaded, two-RBI single by CJ Griggs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sanderoff, who came in during the top of the eighth inning, pitched two scoreless innings. The Pride won both games last season and has won four straight overall.
Elon (19-24, 9-9 CAA) is coming off a series win against North Carolina A&T. Ryan Sprock leads the Phoenix with nine home runs and 24 extra-base hits. The Pride and the Phoenix have faced off 24 times. Elon holds a 16-8 advantage in the series.
Following the midweek games, Hofstra will host St. John's on Wednesday, May 7, completing a home-and-home series that saw the Pride pick up a 7-6 comeback win on April 15. Hofstra scored six runs in the eighth inning, capped off by a bases-loaded, two-RBI single from Michael Craig to take their first lead of the game. First pitch for next Wednesday's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at University Field.
