Goddard, Nuttall Claim Major Awards; Three Others Earn Recognition

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University senior midfielder Laurie Goddard earned Coastal Athletic Association Player and Midfielder of the Year honors, while Head Coach Richard Nuttall was voted CAA Coach of the Year as the conference announced its postseason awards Wednesday on the eve of the 2025 CAA Championship. In addition, Goddard and senior forward Daniel Burko were named to the All-CAA First Team, graduate midfielder Stefano Campisi was selected to the third team, and freshman midfielder Samuel Francou was a CAA All-Rookie pick. 

Goddard became only the second player in CAA history to earn two major awards in the same season, joining Hofstra Assistant Coach Shaun Foster who was the 2010 Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. The London, England native put together another tremendous season with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points. Six of his 10 goals have been game-winners, and he ranks second on the team in goals, assists, and points. Goddard is also second in the league in goals and points, sixth in assists, and first in game-winning goals. He ranks 11th in the nation in points and 12th in goals. 

Nuttall, who is in his 37th and final season as Hofstra's head coach, picked up his fourth CAA Coach of the Year after leading the Pride to a 12-4 regular season with a 7-1 CAA mark. The Pride won the CAA North Division and is the CAA Championship's top overall seed. Coach Nuttall, who has  previously won the award in 2015, 2016, and 2021. Nuttall, who has guided the Pride to a 362-263-87 record, announced that he would step down at the end of the season to take on a role in Athletic Development. Nuttall, who is the winningest coach in program history, has led his team to a CAA Tournament appearance in 15 of the past 16 seasons and 14 consecutive years. He has coached Hofstra to a .500 record or better in 14 straight campaigns. Hofstra has won eight CAA Championships under Nuttall's tutelage (2004, 2005, 2006, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024). The team has advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament twice (2021, 2023) and to the second round three times (2004, 2006, 2015).

Burko made the most of his first season on the Pride after transferring from Syracuse. The Lovenstad, Norway native leads Hofstra in goals with 11 and points with 26. He has really come on as of late with seven goals and two assists over his last four games. Burko leads the CAA and is ninth in the nation in goals and points. 

Campisi also impressed during his first season at Hofstra. A transfer from Gonzaga, Campisi recorded one goal, a team-high nine assists and 11 points. The nine assists are tied for eighth on Hofstra's single season list. He leads the CAA and ranks fourth in the nation. Six of his assists have come in the last four games as the Milan, Italy native has at least one in each contest.  

Francou, a native of Melbourne Australia, has been a steady presence in the midfield. Starting 15 of 16 games as a freshman, Francou has tallied a goal and two assists for four points, and ranks second on the team in minutes played with 1,367. 

Hofstra will host the winner of the Stony Brook-Monmouth game Sunday at 2 p.m. at Captains Field in the CAA North Division Semifinals.
