Hempstead, NY - The HEADstrong Foundation is proud to announce that it has partnered with Hofstra University Athletics on the 27 Challenge, empowering Hofstra student-athletes to be relentless in improving lives affected by cancer this spring.

Starting on March 11 and running through April, Hofstra student-athletes will be challenging themselves to do 27 more of something, determined by each team, to raise awareness and funds for HEADstrong. Founder Nick Colleluori wore the number 27 while a student-athlete on the lacrosse team at Hofstra at the time of his diagnosis with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

"We are so honored to have the Hofstra Athletics community rallying behind HEADstrong for the 27 Challenge," said HEADstrong President Cheryl Colleluori. "To have Nick's memory continue to have an impact at his alma mater is incredibly meaningful. We are beyond grateful for everyone's support as we continue to improve lives affected by cancer in his name."

Colleluori founded the HEADstrong Foundation from his hospital bed in 2006 during his 14-month battle with the goal of improving the lives of those affected by cancer and their families just like his. In the 17 years since his passing, HEADstrong has raised over $30 million dollars and helped over 30,000 families with residential, emotional and financial assistance, following his vision.

"The HEADstrong Foundation is so incredibly important to Hofstra University and our Department of Athletics," mentioned Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "We are proud to partner with them on the 27 Challenge and we want to especially recognize Chase Patterson from our men's lacrosse team and our amazing Hofstra SAAC for their leadership in this important endeavor. We look forward to not only bringing important awareness to the HEADstrong Foundation but also raising money to help improve those lives affected by cancer."
