Hofstra Heads To Virginia For Two Dual Matches

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University wrestling team will look to get back on the winning track this weekend with a pair of dual matches beginning Saturday at VMI and concluding Sunday at George Mason. Both matches begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Links can be found above or on the wrestling schedule page of GoHofstra.com.

The Pride (3-3) saw a three-match winning streak halted in its last outing, a loss to No. 4 North Carolina State this past Sunday at home. All three of the Pride's losses have come against teams ranked in the top five nationally (Ohio State, Penn State, North Carolina State). Noah Tapia (12-9) had Hofstra's only win against the Wolfpack with a tech fall victory at 149 pounds. Keaton Kluever (7-2) remains the Pride's only nationally-ranked wrestler as he is slated No. 22 by InterMat rankings, No. 21 by WrestleStat, and No. 25 by FloWrestling. 

VMI enters Saturday's match at 4-4 overall. The Keydets have not competed since the Soldier Salute on December 29-30. 141-pounder Patrick Jordon leads VMI with a 12-6 record. Ryan Vigil (149) has 11 wins for the Keydets, while 133-pounder Dyson Dunham has 10 victories. 

George Mason is 8-4 overall and has a match against Edinboro on Saturday. The Patriots have won two consecutive duals and is coming off a 18-17 win over Virginia at the ARMS Classic this past Saturday. DJ McGee (157) has an 18-3 record and is ranked No. 26 by InterMat, while Nathan Higley is 8-1 at 141 pounds and is ranked No. 30.

The Pride is 4-1 all-time against VMI with the last meeting a 21-17 win by the Keydets in Morgantown, West Virginia. Hofstra is 13-1 all-time against George Mason and posted a 26-16 win at home last season.

Following the weekend trip to Virginia, the Pride will return to action on January 21 at Franklin and Marshall in Hofstra's EIWA opener.
