Washington, DC - Gauge Shipp, Chase Liardi, and Will Conlon advanced to the consolation semifinals, while Alex Turley will wrestle for seventh place Saturday after the first day of the EIWA Championships at American University's Bender Arena. 

Shipp, seeded fifth at 133 pounds, won his first two matches, defeating Lehigh's Ethan Smith by injury default in the round of 16 and fourth-seeded Mason Leipart of Franklin & Marshall, 7-3, in the quarterfinals. Shipp's run in the championship bracket came to an end in the semifinals as the Pride sophomore dropped a 9-3 decision to the No. 2 seed and 21st-ranked Max Leete of American. Shipp will wrestle Saturday against Navy's Brendan Ferretti (7 seed) in a consolation semifinal. 

Liardi, the 10 seed at 141 went 1-1 in the championship bracket. He won his round of 16 match, 5-3, over seventh seeded Ryan Hartung of Binghamton. Second-seeded and No. 27/20 Caedyn Ricciardi of Navy defeated Liardi in the quarterfinals by tech fall. Liardi would win both of his consolation matches, edging ninth-seeded John Hildebrandt of Sacred Heart (4-3) and sixth-seeded Jordan Soriano of Drexel (2-0). The Pride graduate student will face fourth-seeded and No. 28/27 Dylan Chappell (Bucknell) in a consolation semifinal. 

Conlon, seeded seventh at 197, had a 14-0 major decision in his opening match against 10th-seeded Kaleb Wright of LIU. He lost a decision to second seeded and #28/#19 Mikey Squires of Binghamton in the quarterfinals. Conlon advanced to his consolation semifinal with a win by fall over Sacred Heart's Chris DeLena (9 seed) and a 4-0 decision over Drexel's Ibrahim Ameer (6 seed).  

Ninth-seeded Turley lost his 149 pound round of 16 match to Franklin & Marshall's Pat Phillips by a 4-1 decision. He downed the seventh seed, Dylan Asuncion of Sacred Heart, in the consolation round of 8 #2. He followed that with a major decision loss to third-seeded Deon Pleasant of Drexel in the consolation round of 4 #1 to get a spot in the seventh-place match. 

Second day action at the EIWA Championships gets underway at 11 a.m.
