Infuso, Speel Named To Scholar All-America Team

Hempstead, NY - Two members of the Hofstra University men's soccer program - Pierce Infuso and Wessel Speel - have been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Team the organization announced today. Infuso earned a spot on the first team, while Speel was a second team selection. 

Infuso, a senior defender majoring in finance, has had an incredible postseason on the awards front. Last week he was named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American and also earned First Team All-Atlantic Region accolades. Infuso was the Coastal Athletic Association Championship Most Outstanding Player and a First Team All-CAA honoree. Academically, he was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team with CSC Academic All-America® honors being announced next week. This marks Infuso's second consecutive Scholar All-America selection as he was a second team pick last season. The Merrick, New York native holds a 3.70 grade point average and was an anchor of the Hofstra defense that produced nine shutouts and allowed less than four shots on goal per game. He also chipped in offensively with two goals and an assist. 

Speel is also making his second consecutive Scholar All-America Team appearance after earning a spot on the third team in 2022. The senior goalkeeper from Utrecht, The Netherlands, is a finance major with a 3.81 grade point average. He was also a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team selection this season with CSC Academic All-America® honors still a possibility with those teams being announced next week. A Second Team All-Atlantic Region, Second Team All-CAA, and All-CAA Championship selection, Speel picked up 14 victories this past season with a 0.80 goals against average, 67 saves, a .788 save percentage and nine shutouts. He wraps his career as Hofstra's all-time leader in shutouts with 25. 

Hofstra was 14-3-5 in 2023, winning the CAA Championship for the third consecutive season and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Championship as the No. 14 seed.
