Hempstead, NY – Hofstra field hockey student-athletes
Pieke Roos and
Tara McNally have been selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as Division I All-Mideast Region honorees, the organization announced.
Roos was named to the All-Mideast Region First Team, while McNally picked up second team honors. The two are the program's first two NFHCA Division I All-Region selections since Claudia Marin Samper and Stella Schoen were named All-Region in 2016.
A goalkeeper from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Roos was named All-CAA First Team after a breakout sophomore season for the Pride. In 12 starts between the posts, Roos led the conference in save percentage (.784) and saves per game (8.17) while ranking third in the country in saves per game and 11th in save percentage, and she finished third among CAA goalkeepers with 98 total saves. Roos tied for the second-most saves in a game by a Division I goalie in 2023 when she made 22 stops against Northeastern on October 20 and she tied for fifth when she tallied 18 saves against Drexel on September 30.
An All-CAA Second Team pick in 2023, McNally started all 18 games for the Pride and posted a team-leading 13 points on six goals – also a team-high – and one assist. McNally finished the season with a pair of two-goal performances against Wagner and Rider, and the Marmora, New Jersey-native found the back of the goal against Quinnipiac and Northeastern, while her lone assist of the season came in Hofstra's overtime victory against LIU.
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. The NFHCA Regional Player of the Year Awards will be announced on December, followed by the NFHCA All-America teams on December 12, before concluding on December 15 with the announcement of the NFHCA National Player of the Year.
