Hofstra Takes On North Carolina Sunday In NCAA Third Round Game

Hempstead, NY - The 14th-seeded Hofstra University men's soccer team resumes its NCAA Championship journey Sunday at third-seeded North Carolina in a third round contest. Game time at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Pride (14-3-4) is making their second-ever NCAA Third Round appearance. Hofstra last made the round of 16 in 2021 after defeating Lipscomb in the first round and No. 12 Penn State in the second round. The Pride is coming off a 2-0 victory over Yale in the second round last Sunday. Leading scorer Ryan Carmichael scored both Hofstra goals and Eliot Goldthorp posted two assists. Keeper Wessel Speel stopped both shots he faced for his ninth shutout of the season. 
 
The Tar Heels (11-3-6) advanced to the third round with a 2-0 victory over Memphis. Martin Vician scored twice for North Carolina.
 
Sunday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Pride and the Tar Heels do have several common opponents - William & Mary, Elon, and Virginia this season. Hofstra defeated William & Mary (2-1), while North Carolina played the Tribe to a 0-0 draw. The Pride defeated Elon, 3-0, while the Tar Heels won by a 2-0 score. Hofstra and Virginia played to a 1-1 draw, while the Cavaliers defeated North Carolina, 1-0.

The winner of Sunday's third round game advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals and will face the winner of the No. 6 SMU-Oregon State game on December 1 or 2.
