Hempstead, NY – After hosting nine of its first 10 matches of the season at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium, and five consecutive home games, the Hofstra field hockey team embarks on its first extended road trip of the season when it travels to Virginia to take on conference foe William & Mary before taking on Old Dominion in non-conference play.
Hofstra will face the Tribe on Friday (Oct. 6) at 5 p.m., and the Pride's Sunday (Oct. 8) match against the Monarchs will begin at noon. Friday's game will be streamed live on FloLive, and Sunday's match will be streamed on the Monarch All-Access platform. The Pride currently sits at 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association following a 2-1 double overtime defeat to Drexel and a 4-1 loss against Maine.
Cami Valor and
Silvia Vetter scored the goals for Hofstra against Drexel and Maine, respectively, and
Pieke Roos made a combined 27 saves in both games, including an 18-save performance against the Dragons.
Samantha Spera, who tallied an assist against Maine, leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while Vetter (3G) and
Jamie Mc Millan (2G, 2A) both have six points.
Picked to finish third in the Preseason CAA Coaches' Poll, William & Mary enters Friday with a 4-5 overall record and conference mark of 3-0 following a win over Delaware and a defeat to nationally-ranked Duke. Preseason All-CAA honoree Pyper Friedman leads the Tribe with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
Selected second in the Big East Preseason Coaches' Poll, Old Dominion is 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league action. Winners of three consecutive games, the Monarchs are led by Preseason Big East Offensive Player of the Year Marlon de Bruijne with seven goals and one assist for 15 points. Old Dominion will face conference foe Georgetown on Friday prior to its Sunday game against the Pride.
Hofstra's all-time record against William & Mary stands at 7-17 heading into Friday's contest, with the last meeting going in favor of William & Mary by a 1-0 score in 2022. Meanwhile, Hofstra is 1-10 all-time versus Old Dominion, and this will be the first meeting between the former CAA rivals since 2012, a 7-2 victory for the Monarchs.
