Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Baseball Coach Frank Catalanotto today announced that former professional baseball player Reid Gorecki has joined the Pride baseball staff as an assistant coach. Aside from his playing experience, Gorecki has also served as an assistant coach at Suffolk Community College and as an instructor at various baseball academies and camps.

"I am thrilled to welcome Reid to our staff," said Coach Catalanotto. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and our student-athletes will benefit from his instruction."

Gorecki spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons as an assistant coach at Suffolk Community College, where he developed offensive and defensive game plans for the team, as well as provided training instruction.

No stranger to Colonial Athletic Association baseball, Gorecki was a First Team All-CAA selection in 2002 as an outfielder at Delaware. He batted .414 with 12 home runs that season, which was the Blue Hens first in the league. A three-year letterman at Delaware, Gorecki served as team captain as a junior in 2002.

Following his junior season, Gorecki was selected in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent seven seasons in the Cardinals organization and advanced to the Triple A club. He was the organizational Player of the Year in 2004, and was a member of the 40-man roster in 2005 and 2006. He signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves in 2008 and spent two seasons with the organization. He was a AAA All-Star and in August 2009 made his Major League debut against the New York Mets. He appeared in 31 games for the Braves that season. In 2010, he played in the New York Yankees organization and split time between the AA and AAA teams.

Gorecki spent two seasons in the Atlantic League, starting in 2012 for the Long Island Ducks before being traded to the Camden Riversharks midseason. He did receive a ring from the Ducks for his contributions towards their league championship that season. The 2013 season saw Gorecki play for the Sugar Land Skeeters.

After retiring from professional baseball, Gorecki opened up a baseball and softball training complex in Oceanside, New York, called Oil City Sports, where he also serves as lead instructor. He has also been an instructor at East Coast Sports Academy, the Dave Lemanczyk Sports Academy, and the New York Baseball Academy.

A native of East Rockaway, New York, Gorecki attended Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, New York. He is working towards a degree in liberal arts from Delaware and currently resides in South Hempstead, New York
