Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Head Wrestling Coach Dennis Papadatos unveiled today the complete schedule for the upcoming 2022-23 season of Hofstra wrestling, including three home matches against tough conference competition.

A number of high-profile national tournaments, as well as a slate of challenging regional dual matches, highlights a 2022-23 season of competition for the Pride. The schedule also includes postseason competition at the 2023 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at The Palestra, on March 4-5, and the 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma from March 16-18.

"We tried to put together a strong regional EIWA dual meet model for the schedule, and couple it with the showcase tournaments of the year," said Papadatos, entering his ninth season as head coach of the Hofstra wrestling program. "We're going to the Vegas Invitational, the Southern Scuffle, the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, and the Black Knight Invitational to make sure our athletes are in those primetime matches with the right RPI match-ups. We also worked in breaks of rest, periods of tough travel and consecutive match ups, so we are making sure our team is prepared with the rigors it takes to win and being physically and mentally fresh and ready to give their best."

Following the intrasquad Hofstra Wrestle-Offs at 1:30 p.m. on October 27, the season officially begins on November 6 at the Princeton Open, followed by the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on November 13, and the Black Knight Invitational on November 20.

The Pride will begin December with a trip to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational on December 2-3 before opening its dual meet and EIWA schedules with a home match against American on December 22 from the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. All four home matches will be held inside the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Hofstra will ring in 2023 with a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the prestigious, two-day Southern Scuffle followed by the final in-season tournament of the season on January 6 at the F&M Open.

The Pride resumes its dual meet season with a pair of road contests against Bucknell (Jan. 9) and Buffalo (Jan. 15), before a January 21 home affair against Franklin & Marshall, followed by road duals against EIWA foes Binghamton (Jan. 26) and Navy (Jan. 28) to close out the first month of the new year. February kicks off with back-to-back home matches against George Mason (Feb. 3) and Drexel (Feb. 5), before heading out of state to take on Sacred Heart and Harvard on February 11. The regular season will wrap up with Senior Day on February 18 against California Baptist.

"We put a lot of time, energy, and thought into how we wanted to get our student-athletes prepared for March," Papadatos continued. "We believe the schedule does just that, and the guys on the team are excited about what's ahead of them."

Papadatos and the Pride coaching staff welcome back nine starters from the previous season, including two-time NCAA qualifier Zachary Knighton-Ward, 2021 NCAA qualifier Trey Rogers, and 2022 EIWA placewinner Justin Hoyle, while adding six freshmen and four transfers into the fold for the upcoming season.
