BB: Hofstra To Go Dancing At Chapel Hill Regional

5/30/2022 3:05:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The NCAA Baseball Committee held the 2022 Baseball Championship selection show this afternoon and the Hofstra baseball team will compete at the Chapel Hill (NC) Regional. The Pride will take on the No. 10 seeded Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina in the first round of the Regional Friday at Boshamer Stadium at 2 p.m. The other teams in the Regional are VCU and Georgia, who will meet at 7 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

Hofstra (30-21) is making its first appearance in an NCAA Regional in program history. The Pride won the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Sunday with a walk-off, 7-6, win over Northeastern. Ryan Morash was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run. The championship was Hofstra's first CAA title and the first of any kind since the 1994 Diamond Conference (which did not have a postseason tournament or an NCAA bid). The Pride has a season-best nine-game winning streak heading into the NCAA Championship.

North Carolina (38-19) won the Atlantic Coast Conference title this past weekend with a 9-5 victory over North Carolina State. The Tar Heels have won seven games in a row entering the Regional. Hofstra and North Carolina will be meeting for the first time on the baseball diamond.

The Rams of VCU (40-18) won the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second consecutive year and enter the weekend with a 15-game winning streak. Hofstra is 8-27 all-time versus VCU, a former CAA rival.

Georgia (35-21) earned its way into the NCAA Regionals as an at-large selection out of the SEC. The Bulldogs and Pride have not competed against each other in baseball.

Tickets packages for the weekend will go on sale Wednesday at noon. Single-game tickets will be available starting Thursday at noon. They will be $15 for a single game, $60 for full session tickets. A link for tickets is available on the baseball schedule page on GoHofstra.com

Parking will be available in the Rams Head Deck for $10 and in the Craige Deck for free (levels 5-9). Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, there will also be free parking available in the Bowles Lot, the Raleigh Road Visitors Lot and on Stadium Drive. Disability parking is available for $10 in the Rams Head Deck. Ridge Road will be closed to through traffic for the weekend.

Gates will open two hours prior to first pitch and we will clear the stadium between games.
