BB: Hofstra Continues Road Trip Tuesday At Rutgers

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University baseball team is back in action Tuesday afternoon when it heads to Piscataway, New Jersey, for a 3 p.m. matchup against Rutgers at Bainton Field. Hofstra (18-16) is in the midst of an 8-game road swing and is 3-1 through four games. The Pride is coming off a 2-1 series win at Towson this past weekend. Hofstra won the first two games of the series before falling in extra innings in the finale. Kevin Bruggeman had a strong week at the plate, batting .444 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. The junior catcher now leads the team in batting at .319 and shares the team lead with 23 RBIs. Graduate utility man Jake Liberatore is batting .310 and leads the Pride with 23 runs scored.

Rutgers is currently 32-9 on the season and is ranked 24th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 poll. The Scarlet Knights dropped two of three this past weekend against Big Ten rival Iowa. Nick Cimillo is the top hitter in the Rutgers lineup with a .404 average, 13 doubles, nine home runs, and 31 RBIs. Chris Brito and Tony Santa Maria each have eight home runs and 49 and 47 RBIs, respectively. As a team, the Scarlet Knights boast a 3.28 earned run average and have 375 strikeouts in 365 innings. 

Hofstra and Rutgers have met 15 times in the past with the Scarlet Knights holding an 8-7 advantage. Hofstra won the last meeting, 6-4, in Piscataway on April 17, 2019. 

Following the game against Rutgers, Hofstra will wrap up its road trip with three games at William & Mary beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
