MLAX: Hofstra Starts Three-Game Road Trip at Providence

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's lacrosse team embarks on the final non-conference game of the season and the first of three consecutive games away from the friendly confines of James M. Shuart Stadium when it makes the trip to Rhode Island to take on Providence on Saturday, March 26.

Hofstra is back in action after a 22-10 defeat this past Saturday to Rutgers, the eighth-ranked team in the country at the time. Ryan Sheridan recorded a season-high three points on two goals and an assist, while Dylan McIntosh found the back of the net twice on Saturday. Chase Patterson went 11-19 at the face-off circle with six ground balls, and Bryan McIntosh led the Hofstra defense with three caused turnovers. In net, Mac Gates finished with 12 saves for his eighth game with 10 or more saves this season.

After scoring one goal against Rutgers, Gerard Kane upped his team-leading goals tally to 13, while Matt Elder tallied a goal and an assist to give him 18 points on the season, tying him for the team-lead in points with Kane. McIntosh's three caused turnovers puts him second in Division I in total caused turnovers with 25 and fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game at 2.78.

Following a 15-11 defeat to CAA-foe Fairfield on Saturday, Providence enters this week's contest 4-4 on the year. Matt Grillo leads the Friars, who were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, with 26 goals on attack, while midfielder Evan McGreen has posted 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points for Providence. Midfielder Ryan Bell leads the team with 20 assists while finding the back of the net six times in his freshman campaign.

This Saturday will mark the 10th game in the all-time series between the two programs, with Hofstra holding a 7-2 advantage over Providence. The last meeting between Hofstra and Providence came in 2019, with the Friars leaving Hempstead the victors in an 11-10 thriller.
