MLAX: Hofstra Welcomes Eighth-Ranked Rutgers to Shuart Stadium

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra men's lacrosse team faces its toughest non-conference test of the season when the Pride squares off with #8 Rutgers on Saturday, March 19, from James M. Shuart Stadium.

Saturday's opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Lax Sports Network, while an audio-only broadcast will be on the Hofstra Alternative Web Channel, and live statistics will be available. The Pride rebounded from a 12-6 loss on Tuesday to Binghamton with an 8-4 win over Manhattan on Saturday. Rory Jones, Gerard Kane, and Dylan McIntosh all scored two goals against the Jaspers, while Bryan McIntosh tied a career-best for caused turnovers in a game with five, Mac Gates made 11 saves on the day, and Chase Patterson went 11-12 on face-offs with six ground balls. Against Binghamton, McIntosh led Hofstra with three points from a pair of goals and an assist, Colton Rudd assisted twice, and Jones tallied a goal and an assist.

4-4 on the year and receiving votes in the latest USILA Coaches Rankings, Hofstra sports the eighth-ranked scoring defense in the country, allowing just 9.12 goals per game, while McIntosh has averaged 2.75 caused turnovers per game, the fourth-most by a defenseman in Division I. Gates has had a terrific start to his full season as the starting goalie, as the junior ranks eighth nationally in goals against average (9.07) and 10th in save percentage (.579).

NCAA Quarterfinalists from the previous season, Rutgers is in the midst of a 7-1 season following a win over Lafayette on Tuesday. Ranked #8 in the country by the USILA and Inside Lacrosse and #7 by USA Lacrosse Magazine, the Scarlet Knights are led on offense by Scott Ross with 24 goals and 13 assists, while Mitch Bartolo has contributed 20 goals and nine assists for Rutgers, who boast the 10th-ranked scoring offense in the nation with 15 goals scored per game.

Saturday will be the 20th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Rutgers with the Scarlet Knights leading the series, 15-14. This will be just the second contest between Hofstra and Rutgers since the turn of the millennium, and it will be the first meeting since 2019.
