WLAX: Hofstra Set to Take On Fairfield In Home Opener On Saturday; Host Morgan's Message Game

2/24/2022 4:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's lacrosse team will finally play its first home game of the season on Saturday when it hosts Fairfield from James M. Shuart Stadium. The Pride played its first three games of the season all on the road.

First draw control is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Hofstra women's lacrosse program is honored to partner with Morgan's Message and help bring awareness about student-athlete mental health. Morgan's Message amplifies stories, resources, and expertise to confront student-athlete mental health, builds a community by and for athletes, and provides a platform for advocacy. Morgan's Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. We aim to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone.

The game will air on FloLive and WRHU (88.7 FM) will have an audio only broadcast available as well. Links to both can be found on this page and on the women's lacrosse schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is 2-1 on the year following a 12-7 win over Brown on Tuesday. Graduate student Katie Whelan led the way with five goals, while junior Taylor Mennella tallied three goals and an assist, and senior Jess Smith made 12 saves in net.

Fairfield is 3-1 this season and most recently earned a 14-10 win over Boston University on Wednesday. Libby Rowe had six points on four goals and two assists for the Stags in that game.

Hofstra leads the all-time series with Fairfield, 13-4. Hofstra has won two straight in the series, including a 17-13 win during the 2020 campaign.
