Mennella’s Eight-Point Masterclass Leads Hofstra Past Towson, Keeps Pride Perfect In CAA Play

Towson, MD - Nikki Mennella was spectacular once again with eight points on six goals and two assists, while also adding eight draw controls, in leading the Hofstra women's lacrosse team to a key 13-10 road win over Towson on Saturday afternoon at Unitas Stadium.

Hofstra won for the fourth time in its last five games and improved to 7-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in CAA action. Towson dropped to 4-7 and 2-1 in conference play.

For Mennella, it was the third time this season she has scored six or more goals in a game and the ninth time in her spectacular career. The eight draw controls tied her season high.

It was all Hofstra to start the game as the Pride jumped out to a 6-1 lead following a goal from Julia Harris with 6:31 left in the second quarter. Towson scored the final two goals of the first half but the Pride was still able to take a three-goal lead, 7-4, into the break as Mennella tallied Hofstra's seventh goal with 3:33 left before intermission.

The Tigers would tie the game in the third quarter as they scored the first three goals of the quarter. Hofstra responded, though, and a personal 3-0 run by Mennella put the Pride up 10-7 with 14:08 left in the fourth quarter. Towson got within one later in the fourth quarter but Hofstra used another 3-0 scoring run to take a commanding 13-9 lead with less than six minutes left before settling in for the three-goal victory.

Kayleigh Bender and Natalie DeMeo also had strong games for the Pride with four points each as Bender had two goals and two assists and DeMeo tallied a goal and a career-high-tying three assists. Christine Dannenfelser had a team and season-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Luchianna Cardello continued her solid season with 10 saves in the game, including four in the fourth quarter.

Valerie Thompson was one of four Towson players with three points in the game as she led the way with three goals for the Tigers. Casey Meredith had four ground balls for Towson.

Hofstra is back at home next Saturday when it hosts Drexel at 12 p.m. That game is part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse team, which will host Fairfield at 3:30 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com.
