Hempstead, NY - Hofstra men's indoor track senior
Paul Markovina has been named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week. Markovina received 63% of the fan vote on the Hofstra Pride Twitter page, beating out Aaron Estrada of men's basketball and Jaylen Hines of women's basketball to receive the honor.
A senior distance runner from Old Westbury, New York, Markovina ran for the Pride at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Sunday, January 30. Running in the 3000m, Markovina crossed the finish line with a time of 8:23.72. Not only was his time a new personal-best, but Markovina's time on Sunday became the second-fastest time in the 3000m in Hofstra men's indoor track history. He topped the previous mark of 8:32.04 from the 2020 Boston University Last Chance Qualifier.
Markovina and the Hofstra men's indoor track team will return to action on February 11. The Pride will send a split squad for that day, competing at the FastTrack National Invitational in Staten Island and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston.
