Hofstra Squares Off With UNCW In CAA Semifinals

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team takes its next step in their quest for a Colonial Athletic Association championship Sunday afternoon when they take on second-seeded UNCW in the semifinals of the 2022 CAA Championship. Kickoff at UNCW Soccer Stadium is set for 2 p.m.

Third-seeded Hofstra (12-3-3) earned its spot in the semifinals for the 11th time in program history and for the fifth consecutive year with a 1-0 overtime win over No. 6 William & Mary in the quarterfinals this past Thursday. CAA Player of the Year Ryan Carmichael's goal just over two minutes into the second overtime gave the Pride the victory.

UNCW (6-3-7) earned a bye to the semifinals. The Seahawks are making their 10th CAA Semifinals appearance.

Hofstra holds a 13-6-4 record all-time against UNCW and is 3-0 against the Seahawks in CAA Championship play. The teams last met in the postseason in the 2020-21 Championship semifinals with the Pride prevailing, 4-2. The teams last meeting, on October 8, saw Hofstra come away with a 2-1 victory in Wilmington on a late goal from Francesco Perinelli.

The winner of Sunday's semifinal will advance to the CAA championship game next weekend against the winner of the No. 1 Elon-No. 5 Drexel semifinal.
