WBB: Hofstra Embarks On Colonial Athletic Association Schedule at Northeastern Sunday

Hempstead, NY – Following a nearly 30-day layoff due to COVID-19 protocols, the Hofstra women's basketball team is itching to return to the court as Colonial Athletic Association play begins for the Pride against Northeastern on Sunday, January 9. Tip-off at the Cabot Center in Boston, Mass. is set for 12 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on FloHoops.com and will also air on television on the New England Sports Network (NESN) for those located in the New England region. In addition, WRHU will provide live audio on the Hofstra Alternative Web Channel (HAWC). The Pride (3-5, 0-0 CAA) is entering the game looking for its first win since November 26 at Kennesaw State. Most recently, Hofstra took on a challenging opponent in Ole Miss and fell to the Rebels by a 59-37 decision. Jaylen Hines tallied 11 points on a 5-of-7 effort from the field to lead Hofstra, while Zyheima Swint followed with seven points and tied for a game-high nine rebounds. On the season, JaKayla Brown leads Hofstra with 13.0 points per outing while Hines follows with 11.3 Hines is also the team leader in rebounds with 6.3 per game.
 
Northeastern (7-4, 1-0 CAA), who has also faced a share of COVID-19 hardships, returns to the court for just the second time since December 19 on Sunday. This past Wednesday, the Huskies defeated UNCW, 77-67, led by leading scorer Kendall Currence's career-high 27 points. Currence averages 15.4 points per game for Northeastern, followed by Claudia Soriano who contributes an average of 10.8 points. Donna Ntambue paces the team with 7.4 rebounds per game, while Soriano leads with a team-high 42 assists (3.8/game).
 
Hofstra is 24-27 all-time against Northeastern. The teams faced four times during the regular season in 2020-21 and posted an even 2-2 record. On January 7, Hofstra won by a score of 68-57 before falling by a slim 54-53 decision on January 9. Later on in the season on February 28, Hofstra dropped a 68-39 matchup on the road before closing out the regular season with a 63-60 victory at home. Brown led Hofstra in scoring in both of Hofstra's wins against Northeastern last season, including a 23-point performance on January 7 and 17-point outing in the regular season finale.
