Hempstead, NY - Winners of three consecutive games to start the season, the Hofstra men's soccer team will put that win streak on the line as it opens Colonial Athletic Association play at Northeastern Saturday evening. Game time at Parsons Field in Brookline, Massachusetts is set for 6 p.m.
Hofstra is coming off a 1-0 victory at LIU this past Wednesday with
Ryan Carmichael netting the game's only goal just before halftime.
Wessel Speel made five saves in support of a strong defensive effort by the Pride. Hofstra has yet to concede a goal in 2021 with shutout wins over Rhode Island (2-0) and Stony Brook (1-0) in addition to the LIU victory.
Carmichael and
Stefan Mason lead the team in scoring with three points on a goal and an assist each.
Matthew Vowinkel and
Jason Ramirez each have one goal, while
Storm Strongin and
Francesco Perinelli have recorded assists. Speel has made 10 saves in goal.
Northeastern is 2-1-1 on the season. The Huskies suffered their first loss of the season this past Tuesday against No. 12 New Hampshire, 1-0. The Huskies have a pair of road wins at Bryant (3-2) and Merrimack (2-1), and a draw at Massachusetts (1-1). Timothy Ennin has a team-best four goals for the Huskies while Federico Tellez has one goal and three assists. Colby Hegarty has played all four games in goal and has a 1.14 goals against average and 25 saves.

Hofstra is 7-7-5 all-time in Colonial Athletic Association openers. The Pride defeated Drexel, 3-0, in the conference opener last season. Northeastern leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 14-11-3, but the Pride is 5-1-2 over the last eight meetings. Hofstra was 1-0-1 against Northeastern last season.
Following Saturday's game, Hofstra will return home to host its first home game of the season Tuesday night (7 p.m.) against the University at Albany.
