Hempstead, NY - USA Lacrosse has named former Hofstra men's lacrosse student-athlete Marc Riccio as the new CEO for the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse in the United States, the organization announced today.
Riccio is a 1989 graduate of Hofstra University with a bachelor's degree in communications. He started his four-year Hofstra career in goal, where he led the team as a freshman in 1986 with 161 saves and a 9.67 GAA. He later transitioned into an attackman for the 1989 season and tallied five goals, four assists, and 21 ground balls.
"We are thrilled for Marc and his new role with USA Lacrosse," commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "It is incredible to see one of our outstanding alumni earn such an important role with an organization as prestigious as USA Lacrosse."
"Marc Riccio is an unbelievably focused person. He was a tremendous player and teammate during his time at Hofstra, and he went on to be very successful in everything that he set his mind to after his time here," Hofstra Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney said. "I can't wait to see what is ahead for the sport of lacrosse in this country with Marc at the helm. USA Lacrosse hired the right person to lead it."
Prior to his new role with USA Lacrosse, Riccio was the chief commercial officer of KlarisIP, a boutique intellectual property and media consultancy. Riccio was responsible for advising strategy, growth, and organizational transformation of major sport and esports properties. He owned and operated his own consulting business prior to KlarisIP, and he guided global esports and video game companies on mergers and acquisitions.
From 1996 through 2013, Riccio was the senior vice president, business development for the New York Jets. Riccio's responsibilities included all aspects of team and stadium business affairs and overall strategic planning for the organization. He led a variety of teams responsible for corporate sales, new business development, partner management, merchandising, revenue strategy, and the monetization for the construction of MetLife Stadium, the current home of the Jets since its completion in 2010.
Before working for the Jets, Riccio was the director of marketing and development at Hofstra from 1989 through 1996, and he helped lead fundraising efforts for Hofstra's athletic programs through the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club. He also taught for the University as an associate adjunct professor for graduate and undergraduate sports management classes.
