Hempstead, NY - Former Hofstra baseball first baseman
Rob Weissheier has signed a professional contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League. Weissheier, who wrapped up his collegiate eligibility this past spring, was playing for the Terre Haute Rex in the collegiate Prospect League.
During his tenure at Hofstra, Weissheier played in 173 games with 161 starts. He batted .260 with 40 doubles, 5 triples, 25 home runs, and 116 RBIs. The Valley Stream, New York, native also scored 90 runs and posted a .466 career slugging percentage. Weissheier stands tied for fifth in career home runs at Hofstra, and is eighth in doubles, and ninth in RBIs. Â
A First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection this past season, Weissheier started all 39 games and batted .295 with 12 doubles, 8 home runs, 34 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He led Hofstra in home runs and RBIs and was second in doubles. He ranked sixth in the CAA in home runs, tied for seventh in doubles, and tied for seventh in RBIs. One of the top fielding first basemen in the league, Weissheier compiled a .997 fielding percentage this past season. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades in 2021.
In 29 games with the Rex this summer, Weissheier was batting .408 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, 12 home runs, and 29 RBIs. He led the team in home runs and RBIs, and was second in doubles.
The Thunderbolts are located in Crestwood, Illinois, and compete in the Central Division of the Frontier League, one of the top independent leagues in the nation. Weissheier is the second Hofstra player to join the league this summer as
