MLAX: Ryan Tierney Named Second Team USILA All-American

Louisville, KY - Hofstra men's lacrosse senior Ryan Tierney was named a Second Team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, the organization announced today.

Tierney becomes the 81st Hofstra men's lacrosse player to receive All-America honors in program history, and he is the Pride's first USILA All-American since Jack Concannon was named to the Third Team in 2018.

The senior from Massapequa, New York adds to his impressive postseason haul following the 2021 season. Tierney was named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-CAA First Team honors, and he was named a Third Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. In addition, He was named as one of 25 nominees for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award in April.

In 14 games this season, Tierney posted 65 points on 43 goals and 22 assists, and added 27 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The star attackman had nine multi-goal games in 2021, including two games with a career-best eight goals scored. Tierney also tallied 12 multi-point games during the campaign, and he set a new personal-best with 11 points against St. John's and Stony Brook.

He was twice named the CAA Player of the Week this season, and his outing against St. John's (8G, 3A) earned him national Player of the Week honors from USA Lacrosse and The Baltimore Sun. He was also named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week two times this season.

Tierney concluded his illustrious career with 164 goals and 87 assists for 251 points. Tierney topped program legends Tom Kessler (1999-02) and Jerry Simandl (1952-55) for the most goals and points, respectively, in a career at Hofstra, while he broke the Colonial Athletic Association records for career goals and points held by Curtis Dickson of Delaware (2007-10). His 87 career assists ranks him fourth in Hofstra history and sixth in conference history.

Tierney was one of six players from the CAA to be honored as All-Americans by the USILA. He is joined by Delaware attackman Charlie Kitchen (Honorable Mention) and Delaware defenseman Owen Grant (Honorable Mention), Drexel attackman Reid Bowering (Honorable Mention), Towson defenseman Kolby Smith (Honorable Mention), and Massachusetts defenseman Jeff Trainor (Honorable Mention).
