Hempstead, NY - Senior
Ryan Tierney is the latest Hofstra men's lacrosse player to join the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), as the high-scoring attackman was selected in the second round of the 2021 PLL College Draft, joining the defending-champion Whipsnakes with the 16th overall pick.

Tierney has lit up the college lacrosse world during the 2021 season. The stellar attackman has put up 55 points on 38 goals and 17 assists while scooping up 25 ground balls and causing six turnovers. Tierney ranks seventh in the country in goals per game (3.45) and is 13th in the country in points per game (5.00). His outstanding play has landed him as one of 25 candidates for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award, annually given to the top men's college lacrosse player in the United States.
Tierney's exceptional play is not limited to the 2021 season. The Massapequa, New York-native is Hofstra's all-time leading goal scorer and point scorer, standing with 241 points and 159 goals in over four years of play with the Pride. His point total also puts him as the top point scorer in the history of the Colonial Athletic Association, and he stands second in the conference in goals for a career.
Tierney will become the seventh Hofstra alum to suit up for a PLL team.
Josh Byrne (Chaos),
Jack Concannon (Atlas),
Steve DeNapoli (Waterdogs),
Brendan Kavanagh (Chrome LC),
Finn Sullivan (Redwoods), and
Kevin Unterstein (Atlas) all played in the 2020 PLL season.
Tierney joins a long line of Hofstra graduates to play lacrosse professionally. Between the PLL, Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL), 65 alumni have represented the Pride in the professional ranks.
Tierney and the Pride will conclude the 2021 regular season on Friday, April 30, with a home game against CAA foe Fairfield. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on the Lax Sports Network.
