Hempstead, NY - Hofstra senior
Ryan Tierney has been named one of 25 nominees in Division I men's lacrosse for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced in a release today. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as one of the highest awards in college lacrosse, awarded annually to the top men's and women's college lacrosse player in the country.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups, to be announced in three weeks at the conclusion of the regular season.
From his prodigious goal scoring to his jaw-dropping highlights, Tierney has established himself as one of the top players in 2021, leading the Pride in points (54), goals (38) and assists (16), while ranking sixth in the country in goals per game (3.80) and points per game (5.40). Tierney solidified himself as the top scorer in Hofstra history this season, as he broke the program records for goals in a career and points in a career. He also set a new Colonial Athletic Association record for career points and is on pace to rewrite the Colonial Athletic Association record for goals in a career.
Tierney has scored in every game this season, and ranks seventh in the country for the longest active goal-scoring streak at 31 consecutive games.
Tierney and the No. 20 Pride will return to action this Saturday, April 24, in a road game against CAA-rival and 12th-ranked Drexel. The game will be available on the Lax Sports Network.
About The Tewaaraton Foundation
Founded at the University Club of Washington, DC and first presented in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and U.S. Lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award symbolizes lacrosse's centuries-old roots in Native American heritage. The Tewaaraton Foundation ensures the integrity and advances the mission of this award. Each year, the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy – the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora – and presents two scholarships to students of Native American descent.
