Hempstead, NY -Â The Hofstra University men's soccer team will open play at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Vidas Field on the campus of Drexel University. The Pride, which won the North Division, will take on UNCW, the No. 2 team in the South Division, in Thursday's second semifinal. Hofstra is making its ninth consecutive CAA Championship appearance.

Hofstra posted a 4-2-2 mark during the regular season and was 2-0-2 in CAA play. The Pride enters the Championship unbeaten in their last five games (3-0-2), Hofstra boasts a balanced offense with nine different player scoring at least one goal and eight players tallying at least one assist. Senior
Matthew Vowinkel leads the team in scoring with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Freshman

Storm Strongin has five points on a goal and three assists (tied for team lead). Freshman keeper
Wessel Speel, has played every minute in goal and has a 1.29 goals against average and 28 saves. Â
UNCW (5-2-2) has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Seahawks fell out of the poll this week after falling at James Madison and are currently receiving votes. UNCW enters the CAA Championship with back-to-back losses to then No. 22 Coastal Carolina and then No. 21 James Madison. Colton Pleasants and Tsubasa Takada lead UNCW with two goals each. Gabriel Perrotta has a 0.64 goals against average and 24 saves. Â Â
Hofstra is 11-6-3 all-time against UNCW. The teams have met twice in the postseason with the Pride winning both, a 2-0 win in the 2004 quarterfinals and a 2-1 win in the 2018 semifinals.
The first semifinal in the 2021 CAA Championship features the No. 1 seed from the South, James Madison, and the No. 2 seed from the North, Drexel will take place Thursday at 12 p.m. The CAA Championship game will take place Saturday at 12 p.m.
