Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University men's soccer senior forward Matthew Vowinkel has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. The honor is the first of the season for Vowinkel.

The New Hyde Park, New York, native helped Hofstra open CAA play with a 3-0 victory over Drexel this past Saturday, scoring two goals and adding one assist for five points. Vowinkel opened the scoring in the 27th minute with his second goal of the season. He then assisted on Ryan Carmichael's goal 37 seconds into the second half before converting a penalty kick with just over five minutes remaining to close out the scoring.

The two goals moved Vowinkel into eighth place on the Hofstra career goals list with 26. It was also the fifth multi-goal game of his career.

The Pride (2-2) returns to action Tuesday morning (11 a.m.) at NJIT.
