Hempstead, NY – A program-record three members of the Hofstra men's soccer team were named to the Academic All-America® Team, presented by CoSIDA, it was announced today by the organization. Midfielder

Matthew Vowinkel was named to the second team, and defender
Stefan Mason was a third team selection. The 2021 Academic All-America® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Hebbeker, a senior midfielder from Cologne, Germany, is a first time Academic All-America® selection and is the owner of a 3.97 grade point average as a mathematics major. A Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-American, he was also selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy and earned United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region honors. Hebbeker had a tremendous season for the Pride, compiling nine goals and a team-high tying 11 assists for 29 points. He was a First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection and ranks fifth nationally in assists and 12th in points. He tied for second in the CAA in assists, was fourth in goals, and third in points. The 11 assists are tied for the third most in a single season in program history and his 29 points are tied for ninth on the Hofstra single season list.
Vowinkel is now a two-time Academic All-America® selection after earning a third team spot last season. A first-year graduate student from new Hyde Park, New York, Vowinkel posted a 3.49 grade point average as an undergraduate finance major. A First Team United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region selection, Vowinkel recorded 13 goals, nine assists, and 35 points in 2021, ranking second on the team in goals and points.
Vowinkel is fourth in the nation in points and 10th in goals, and was second in the CAA in both categories. A First Team All-CAA selection, he was also the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player after scoring four goals in two games to lead the Pride to the title.
Mason, a junior defender from Knowle, United Kingdom, has a 3.82 grade point average as a finance major. He is a first-time Academic All-America® selection. Mason was a Third Team All-CAA selection this season, as the team co-captain was a key contributor on the back line and added four goals and five assists. Three of his four goals were game-winners. Mason was also an All-CAA Championship selection.
The men's soccer program has now had six student-athletes earn Academic All-America® accolades. Hebbeker joins Arni Gunnarsson (2002, 2003) as the only first team selection in program history. In addition, Hofstra Athletics has produced 35 individual Academic All-Americans®, totaling 46 selections.
Hofstra was 18-2-2 in 2021, winning the CAA title and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history. The Pride's 18 victories were a school record.
