MSOC: Top Seed Hofstra Hosts #4 Drexel In CAA Semifinals

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team, winners of the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title and top seed in the CAA Championship, will open up its pursuit of a conference title when it hosts No. 4 Drexel Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in a CAA semifinal at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Second-seeded Northeastern will take on third-seeded Elon in the second semifinal at 7:30 p.m.

All CAA Championship games will be streamed on FloFC and live statistics will be available as well. In addition, WRHU-FM will provide an audio broadcast of Hofstra contests. Links for all can be found above or on the men's soccer schedule page of GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra, ranked 13th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, capped of a fantastic regular season with a 14-1-2 record overall and a 5-1-2 mark in league play to earn the regular season championship for the third time in program history. The Pride was the top seed in 2015 and 2016, and won the league in 2015. Hofstra is on a 13-game unbeaten streak (11-0-2) and is just one victory shy of matching the school record of 15 set in 1968.

The Pride has one of the most potent offenses in the nation and a defense that is as stingy as they come. Hofstra ranks 14th in the nation (first in the CAA) in scoring offense with 2.29 goals per game and is fourth in the nation (first in the CAA) in team goals against average at 0.573. The Pride has scored 39 goals this season while allowing just 10 and ranks fourth in the nation in goal differential.

Drexel comes into the game with a record of 8-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play. The Dragons are 3-3 in their last six games and are coming off a 2-1 overtime at against Delaware in the regular season finale. Drexel averages 1.56 goals per game and allows 1.09 per contest. The Dragons have 25 goals on the season with Chris Donovan accounting for 12.

Hofstra is 21-28-11 all-time versus Drexel. The Pride is 7-0-2 in their last nine meetings against the Dragons and defeated them, 2-1, on September 18 behind goals from Storm Strongin and Hendrik Hebbeker. The Pride is also 12-7-6 all-time in CAA Championship play and has advanced to the finals eight times.
