WLAX: Smith Announces The Addition Of Five Student-Athletes

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith announced today the addition of five student-athletes to begin their academic and athletic careers at Hofstra in the Fall of 2022. 

Joining the Pride is: Luchianna Cardello (Massapequa, New York), Julia Harris (Middletown, Maryland), Nikki Mennella (Smithtown, New York), Aly Moss (Huntington, New York), and Chelsey Weber (Holtsville, New York). 

"We are thrilled to add these five outstanding student-athletes to the Hofstra family," commented Smith. "All five are extremely talented lacrosse players who will be great additions to our program. They all have strong lacrosse IQs and their skill-sets will fit in well with our program."

Cardello, a 5-1 goalie, attends Massapequa High School in Massapequa, New York. She earned All-Nassau County honors and was second team All-Long Island in 2021, while making more than 140 saves and compiling a save percentage of 54%. She has been a member of two Nassau County Class A Championship teams as well. Her sister, Sophia, plays lacrosse at Rutgers. 

Harris, a 5-8 attacker, is a student at Middletown High School in Middletown, Maryland. A three year member of the lacrosse team, she posted 35 goals, 10 assists, and 33 ground balls last season and was named second team in 2021. She has also been a member of the Under Armour 150. Her team was the state runner-up in 2020. 

Mennella, a 5-4 midfielder, attends Smithtown West High School in Smithtown, New York. A five-year member of the lacrosse team, she has earned All-Division and All-Rookie honors during her career. Her father, Chris, played baseball and basketball at Skidmore College and her sister, Taylor, is a member of the Hofstra women's lacrosse team. 

Moss, a 5-4 defender, is a student at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, New York. She played both lacrosse and tennis for St. Anthony's and was a recipient of the Don Scotus Award as a freshman and sophomore and the St. Bonaventure Award as a junior. 

Weber, a 5-9 midfielder, attends Sachem East High School in Farmingville, New York. An All-County Honorable Mention selection in lacrosse last season, she has also played field hockey,  and ran track. Her father played lacrosse at Stony Brook for one year and her sister currently plays lacrosse at Long Island.
