WREST: Hofstra Announces 2021-22 Wrestling Schedule

10/5/2021 1:00:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra Head Wrestling Coach Dennis Papadatos announced today the schedule for the 2021-22 season of Hofstra wrestling, which includes six home matches for the Pride.

In addition to the six home matches, the Pride will compete in five in-season tournaments and two postseason tournaments in the EIWA Championships at Cornell University on March 4-5, and the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Detroit, Michigan from March 17-20.

"We made a huge effort to make sure that we are wrestling against top competition this season, with events such as the Garden State Grapple to the National Duals. We'll see two tough Big 10 teams in Rutgers and Wisconsin in New Jersey, and we'll be heading to Florida to wrestle some of the best teams in the country at the National Duals," Papadatos said. "Coupled with our always-tough EIWA opponents, this year's schedule is a huge step up in the level of competition for our team. We believe our guys are up to the challenge."

The 2021-22 season officially kicks off in November with the Clarion Open on November 7, followed by the Journeyman Collegiate Classic on November 14. The Pride will conclude the month with a trip to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, where they will face Rutgers and Wisconsin in the inaugural Garden State Grapple on November 27. Both programs were listed in the InterMat preseason rankings, with the Scarlet Knights ranked No. 14 and the Badgers No. 17, giving Hofstra a pair of early non-conference challenges.

Hofstra opens its dual match schedule on December 5 with a tri-match against Duke and American, followed by a trip to Brown on December 9. The Pride will head to Florida for the Journeymen National Duals on December 21-22, and they will end the year at the Lock Haven Open on December 29-30.

As the calendar changes to 2022, the Pride will host the first of four home dual matches on January 8 against Bucknell, followed by duals against Buffalo (Jan. 15), Navy (Jan. 16), and Binghamton (Jan. 22). Hofstra will then travel to Pennsylvania on January 30 for a tri-match against Kent State and Clarion.

Following a road dual against Drexel on February 5, Hofstra will host Harvard and Sacred Heart on February 12 in the final home matches of the season. The Pride will conclude the regular season on February 20 with a road dual at Franklin & Marshall.

Hofstra Athletics is excited to welcome back spectators for the 2021-22 wrestling season. We are looking forward to having the Hofstra family back with us. Health & safety guidelines for attending wrestling matches this year are being finalized, and we will update you in the coming weeks on what will be required to attend wrestling matches at Hofstra this year.
