MSOC: Hofstra Travels To Elon Looking To Clinch CAA Championship Berth

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University men's soccer team, ranked 14th in the nation in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, will look to clinch a Colonial Athletic Association Championship berth when it travels to Elon Saturday. Kickoff at Rudd Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Hofstra is currently in first place in the CAA with a 4-1-1 conference record and 13 points. Overall, Hofstra is 13-1-1 and is on an 11-game unbeaten streak (10-0-1) and a three-game winning streak. The Pride is coming off a 1-0 victory over No. 23 James Madison last Saturday behind a goal from Matthew Vowinkel.

On the season, Ryan Carmichael continues to lead the Pride with 13 goals and 30 points. Vowinkel has seven goals and six assists for 20 points, while Hendrik Hebbeker has a team-best nine assists to go along with four goals. Storm Strongin has two goals and eight assists for 12 points and Stefan Mason has 10 points on three goals and four assists. Defensively, George O'Malley, Mason, Mason Tatafu and Pierce Infuso anchor a back line that has allowed just 55 shots on goal through 15 games. Goalkeeper Wessel Speel has 44 saves and a 0.66 goals against average in 15 starts.

Elon enters the game with a 7-6-2 record overall and a 3-1-2 mark in the CAA. The Phoenix is coming off a 3-0 victory at Radford this past Tuesday. Jack Edwards leads Elon with five goals and 11 points, while Kasper Lehn has eight points on a goal and six assists. Peter Wentzell has started 11 games in goal and has a 0.98 goals against average and 34 saves.

Hofstra is 5-0-1 all-time against Elon including a 3-0 mark at Rudd Field. The teams did not play during the 2020-21 season due to divisional scheduling.
