Hempstead, NY - The season continues to move along for the Hofstra wrestling team as they face off against Long Island University on Sunday, January 24. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. from inside the Pratt Recreational Center.
The match will be broadcast live on NEC FrontRow. A link to the broadcast is available at the top of this release and on the wrestling schedule on GoHofstra.com. Like the match against Army West Point, Sunday's match will be a traditional dual meet format with 10 bouts that will count towards a team score. There will also be additional matches that won't count towards the team score, but will count towards the wrestler's record.
Hofstra opened its 2020-21 season this past Sunday in a dual meet against Army West Point and suffered a 30-18 defeat. Redshirt senior

Ross McFarland all scored wins via pin for the Pride against the Black Knights. Garrett at 133 pounds and Heller at 157 pounds all recorded their pins in the first period of their matches, while McFarland earned his win with three seconds left in the third period in a close match at 174 pounds.
Long Island is back after a 2019-20 season that saw them finish with a 2-21 overall record and an 0-9 mark in the conference before placing 15th at the 2020 EIWA Championships. In its second season of competition at the Division I level, Long Island will have wrestled in five matches in the new year, including a season-opening round-robin tournament against Bucknell and Virginia Military Institute. The Sharks last wrestled on January 20 against Sacred Heart and picked up a 24-16 win over the Pioneers in EIWA competition.
This Sunday's meeting marks the second time since Long Island joined Division I and the eighth time dating back to when Long Island was known as C.W. Post these schools have met on the field of competition. The Pride holds a 7-0 all-time record over the Sharks.
