Hempstead, NY - In his first fight since October 2019, Hofstra All-American and former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman scored a unanimous decision victory over Omar Akhmedov at UFC Fight Night 174 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday evening.

Weidman won 29-27, 29-27, 29-28 over his challenger Akhmedov, who had been undefeated in his last six fights. Saturday night's win improved Weidman's professional record to 15-5.

Weidman, a two-time All-American at Hofstra, was 51-21 in two seasons with the Pride, placed sixth in 2006 and third as a senior in 2007 at 197 pounds in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Weidman, who earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2007, was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's Silver Anniversary Wrestling Team in 2009. In 2016, he was honored with the Hofstra Young Alumnus of the Year Award.
