BB: Hofstra Heads To Philadelphia For Series Versus La Salle

Hempstead, NY - After opening the season in sunny Florida, the Hofstra baseball team will return to action in a slightly different climate as the Pride travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a three-game series against La Salle. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday (10:20 a.m.) and a single game Sunday (12 p.m.).

Hofstra went 1-3 in Sanford, Florida, versus Purdue. The Pride held leads in all three games they lost. Reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Anthony D'Onofrio had a big weekend with 11 hits in 16 at-bats for a .688 average. He also drove in six runs and scored three. Austin Gauthier batted at a .600 clip and had three doubles, a home run and five RBIs in the leadoff spot. Vinnie Costello hit .308 on the weekend and had two home runs in game three of the series.

The Pride got strong starts from pitchers Jack Jett, Steven Boscia, and Ryan Rue in the series. Jett did not allow an earned run in 4 2/3 innings while Boscia allowed just one earned in 4 1/3 innings. Rue went six innings and allowed two earned runs.  Lucas Hall picked up the Pride's win in relief in their 13-6 game two victory.

La Salle is 1-2 after a weekend series at Furman. David Smith batted .455 over the three games with four runs and four RBIs. Ross Mulhall hit .417 with a double and three runs scored. Starting pitchers Colin Scanlon, Gabe Rappa and Manny Corporan threw well in the series. Scanlon took the loss despite allowing no earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Rappa earned the win with six innings of 5-hit, 2-run ball as well as five strikeouts. Corporan took a loss after allowing three runs in six innings with seven strikeouts.

Hofstra and La Salle have not met since two games during the 1995 campaign. The Explorers hold a 14-5 advantage in the all-time series. 

The pitching matchups will be as follows:
Game 1: Jack Jett (0-0, 0.00) vs. Colin Scanlon (0-1, 0.00)
Game 2: Steven Boscia (0-0, 2.08) vs. Gabe Rappa (1-0, 1.50)
Game 3: Ryan Rue (0-0, 3.00) vs. Manny Corporan (0-1, 4.50)

Following the series, Hofstra will be off until next weekend when it travels to Reno, Nevada, for games against Nevada and Wichita State.
