WLAX: Johansen Promoted To Associate Head Coach

10/5/2020 11:30:00 AM

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith announced today that Amanda Johansen has been promoted to associate head coach with the Pride.

Johansen just completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Pride in 2020. Johansen serves as the program's defensive coordinator and oversees the draw team as well.

"Amanda has been a huge part of our success and we are thrilled to recognize her impact on our program," commented Smith. "Our team has improved in every facet during her time as an assistant coach and her knowledge and skill set have been integral to our team's development. Congratulations to Amanda on a well-deserved promotion."

In Johansen's first season with the Pride in 2019, she helped the team to a 12-win campaign and a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game. The 12 wins were the most since 2010 and the appearance in the championship game was the first for Hofstra since 2013.

The 2020 season saw Hofstra compile a 4-3 record in the shortened season. Johansen's role with the draw unit saw the Pride lead the CAA and rank 13th nationally in draw controls per game. It marked the second straight season under Johansen's tutelage that Hofstra led the CAA in draw controls per game.

Johansen, who graduated from USC in 2016, earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and also received a minor in sports media studies. She earned her master's degree in sports management from Mount St. Mary's in 2017. She is working towards her second master's degree, in sports science, from Hofstra.
