MLAX: Pro Update – Four Hofstra Alums Named To PLL And MLL All-Star Teams

Hempstead, NY –Four Hofstra Men's Lacrosse alums have earned All-Star honors in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and the Major League Lacrosse (MLL), one Pride alum was recently named the MLL Offensive Player of the Week, and a total of 11 alums have seen action in the two professional lacrosse leagues as they both approach their respective mid-season All-Star games.

In the PLL, attackman Josh Byrne, '17, of the Chaos LC, and goalie Jack Concannon,'18, of the Atlas LC, have been selected for the inaugural PLL All-Star Game, which will take place on Sunday, July 21 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The game will air at 8 p.m. (ET) on NBCSN.

Byrne, the former Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year with the Pride and the MLL Rookie of the Year in 2018, has played in all six games for the Chaos and is seventh in the league with 12 goals, 10th in points with 18 and 11th in assists with six. Concannon, a USILA All-American and a three-time All-CAA selection, is second in the PLL with a 55.5 save percentage with a 12.9 goals against average and 86 saves in six games this season.

In the MLL, defender Finn Sullivan, '16 and midfielder Brendan Kavanagh, '18, both from the Denver Outlaws have earned their first All-Star Game invitations to the MLL's midsummer classic, which will be played on Saturday, July 27, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. The game will face off at 7 p.m. (ET) and will be televised live on ESPN2.

Sullivan, the 2016 CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-CAA selection, is recognized as one of the top match-up defenders in the league and has played in all six games for the league-leading Outlaws. Kavanagh, who is a candidate for MLL Rookie of the Year honors, ranks fourth in the league in assists (11) and points (22) and sixth in goals (11) while tied for the team lead in points this season. He was named the MLL Offensive Player of the Week on July 3 after a 10-point weekend.

In addition to the four PLL and MLL All-Stars, seven more Hofstra alums are carrying the Pride banner high in the two leagues.

In the PLL, midfielders Kevin Unterstein, '08, and Steven DeNapoli, '11 are playing for the Atlas LC. Unterstein has played in six games and has tallied two goals and picked up 12 ground balls. DeNapoli has played in three games and has three ground balls to his credit.

Midfielders Michael Unterstein, '08, Steven Romano, '15, and Brian von Bargen, '16, and defenders Michael Skudin,'11, and Brett Osman, '18, also play in the MLL. All but Skudin play for the New York Lizards. Unterstein has played in five games and has one assist and one caused turnover. Osman has played in four games with one goal and one caused turnover while Romano has played in four games and has tallied two goals. Von Bargen has played in two games for the Lizards and Skudin, who plays for the Boston Cannons, has played in two games and has recorded two caused turnovers.

"We are extremely proud of all of our alumni who are representing both Hofstra University and the Pride Men's Lacrosse program in fine fashion," Hofstra Men's Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney said. "Not only are they distinguishing themselves on the field of competition, they are also outstanding members of their communities."
